PR versus photography? It’s snow contest!

8 January 2010

As the country slid to a snowy standstill this week and the nation’s workers struggled to keep the wheels of industry turning, there was an altogether more exciting battle taking place at 3 Men HQ.

We take our marketing work very seriously, so it’s good to see how a little competition can work wonders when it comes to getting national coverage of an event.

As the first snow fell in Southampton, Louise Steel battled to reach home for five hours before admitting defeat. Not one to miss an opportunity, she used her PR contacts to alert the media to the plight of thousands of stranded motorists on Tuesday night.

Her live interview on BBC News was broadcast at 1.30am and was accompanied by her iPhone shots to illustrate how bad things really were in the south.

A few hours later, Simon Heron did what all great photographers do best and took his camera onto the snowbound streets. He captured some stunning HD footage of his son Kristian traversing the roads of Hedge End in expert style and spotted an opportunity to get one up on Louise.

Without delay he sent his footage off to the BBC which promptly broadcast it on the 6 o’clock News with repeats throughout the evening on the News Channel.

The proof is in the pudding: if you want to get your story across to the nation, 3 Men has the team to tell it.
